Resume Preparation

print

When writing a resume you are preparing a professional sales document for yourself. A great resume could be the difference between you and another applicant receiving an interview.

There is no perfect formula for writing a resume but there are key areas that need to be addressed. The substantive content needs to be clear, concise and up to date.
Employers will pay particular attention to your first page, which identifies your career summary, objectives and key skills. Therefore it is important to focus on selling your ability for the advertised position in this section.

Your Resume

  • Tailor your resume for the position you are targeting
  • List your qualifications and education
  • List your career history in chronological order identifying the employer, position held, period of employment, key responsibilities and reason for leaving
  • Produce your resume on a PC and quality printer
  • Do not use graphics and unusual fonts as it can distract from the content
  • Use quality A4 paper
  • Attach relevant educational certificates and work references
  • Your resume should be no longer than 5 pages
  • Have someone proof read your final copy for spelling and layout errors
